The Private Bin series has been inspired by the McGuigan family tradition to always share a special family wine with their guest. This Shiraz features delightful dark cherry and plum aromas integrated with some smoky vanillin characters and cinnamon from the oak. The wine has a good mouth feel with both cherry and plum flavours with a peppery spice.

Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is a sub-regional expression that is unmistakably Penfolds in character. Conceived from the ancient soils around the township of Marananga, located very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley. The warm dry conditions, rich red clay and sandy loam soils provide the backbone to some of the Barossa Valley's best-known wines. Bin 150 is a contemporary shiraz alternative, a sub-regional offer framed by a mix of oaks; French and American, old and new, small and large - crafted the 'Penfolds way'. As we have come to anticipate, satsuma plums and boysenberries provide a varietal/regional signature. Grippy, ripe and rich tannins anchor a tightly structured frame. Freshly sawn oak. Bin 2 was first released in 1960, yet was discontinued in Australia in the 1970s at the height of the white wine boom. The original Bin 2 was an 'Australian Burgundy' style (despite its Rhône varieties) - typically a soft, medium-bodied wine based on Shiraz. The Bin 2 blend of Shiraz and Mataro is still relatively uncommon in Australian table wines. Also known as Monastrell or Mourvèdre, Mataro was introduced to Australia in the 1830s. Sometimes used in fortified wine production, this grape is widely planted in the Barossa Valley. It is greatly valued by winemakers for its blending attributes, adding complexity and palate grip.

Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm climate Australian Shiraz - ripe, robust, and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented. The 2023 vintage eloquently expresses Penfolds House Style, balancing fruit intensity with a structure poised for ageing. This makes it both an immediate pleasure and a candidate for cellaring, promising to evolve with complexity over time. Blue fruits instantly emerge, specifically elderberries, blueberries, and bilberries. Poached plums merge with the exotic spiciness of cassia bark, imparting rich flavours. A hint of meat adds depth and character to the profile. The mouthfeel is sculpted by chocolate powder tannins, which are luxurious and precise, lending a structure that is both assertive and velvety. Also present is the umami complexity of tomato consommé, enriched with piquant olive tapenade. The palate is further textured by a ferrous minerality.

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is a reflection of the Penfolds winemaking style and philosophy. The 2022 is instantly recognisable as St Henri, a classic vintage that delivers in youth but promises to reward patience over the next two to three decades. Richly layered and fruit-forward, plush, and quietly powerful. The wine has a real presence, weighty yet buoyant. It has stature and confidence. There is a complex assortment of flavours vying for attention. Hazelnuts, macadamia, white chocolate, and Dutch liquorice are first noted. There is a lovely fruit saturation, reminiscent of Kir Royale cocktail, summer berry pudding, and melted chocolate. The tannins are ripe, fully integrated, and effortlessly anchor the fruit.
